I am deeply inspired by a sense of nostalgia here in the Coachella Valley. It has led me to create imaginary scenes using vintage memorabilia, such as automobiles, architecture, signage and abandonment. Often, I combine these objects with dramatic black and white landscapes to create an imaginary but realistic scene, accentuating the subject, still in color. My wish is to convey a window to a different time, combining past and present.
I also explore other subjects and styles, such as night flora, automotive pop art, water abstracts, photographic impressionism, dramatic black and white photography and more. I would like to add that none of my images use AI. They are authentically my own. Enjoy!
Pop art is an art movement that thrived in 1960s America. It draws inspiration from sources in popular and commercial culture. Pop art is a return to art that depicted the visual world in a recognizable way by the use of hard edges and distinct forms. Given the nature of my subject matter, I feel compelled and inspired to create a series of autos portrayed in this style.
Floral blooms are one of the most beautiful and fascinating objects this world has to offer. The colors, structure, textures, fragility, delicacy, scent and impermanence are all in the end, just a device for pollination. At night, I often walk around with a flashlight and my camera to explore the remarkable possibilities flora has to offer.
Because of their reflective qualities, water and glass are able to bend and distort reality into unrecognizable shapes and forms, lending to a perfect subject for abstraction. Water is in continual motion, constantly changing its own landscape. I try and capture it's essence of movement and reflection to create colorful images, lending to open interpretation from the viewer.
Impressionism is defined as an artistic style that seeks to capture a feeling or experience rather than to achieve accurate depiction, characterized by a concern with the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. This effect can also be achieved through photography, filtering light through shadows, movement, water, glass or any object's transparency.
Often times, a photograph is more powerful as a statement without the addition of color. It is said that black and white photographs can be more subtle and interpretive than color photography, and can add an emotional element to the subject. It can also be a way to tell a story without color distracting the viewer, and to focus more on the subject's expression and meaning.
